Alejandro Santos is a Division Chief in the IMF’s Western Hemisphere Department. He is currently the Mission Chief to Panama and has been Mission Chief to many countries in the region as well as being IMF Resident Representative in Russia, Peru and Paraguay. He has extensive experience with economic programs in emerging market economies in Latin America, Eastern Europe, and Asia. His more recent book is on the Peruvian economy (Staying the Course of Economic Success), and his most recent blog is on Panama (Economic Quantum Leap). He holds a Ph.D. in Economics from Yale University.
